Swirl pots are used in fuel injection systems to give a constant supply of fuel to the high pressure pump. Fuel is supplied to the pot usually by a separate low pressure pump from the main tank. The pot then acts as a reservoir of fuel which, unlike fuel in the main tank, is not affected by cornering forces thus eliminating fuel surge which can damage high pressure pumps or even the engine.
